New project: Dark shadows

I can't wait to start painting again. This time I'm going to use dark shadows and bright skin tones to make a dramatic picture. The oil paints should blend well together to create a rich composition. Using some friends as photographers, I will take pictures of my friends to use as subject matter. I love doing portraits, and I can't wait to paint faces again. Using pictures of my friends taken by my friends will be a fun challenge, because I will want to make them look perfect. I'm planning on using colored shadows such as ultramarine and maybe even some permanent rose.

    Paige this sounds really awesome, and I like that you're experimenting with color and shadow in portraits. I remember your portrait last year and how detailed and perfect it looked. I can't wait to see you paint more portraits in a new light. I think that you are definitely challenging yourself with the colored shadows, and it should be a good opportunity to see how you've grown and changed as an artist in the last year!

    I absolutely LOVE your oil paintings and I am excited to see you trying some new techinques. I bet it will turn out really different from your other pieces. (Also, Thank you so much for painting Kristen, it has been a goal of her's all year)

    I'm so glad you're getting back into oil paints! Playing with light and shadow in portraiture will be both challenging and rewarding, I'm sure. Your self portrait was fantastic, and I'm sure this project will be too!

    You are SUCH an amazing portrait artist and oil painter! I LOVE this idea! taking pictures with you on Friday made me understand your idea more and I love it - the kind of lighting you were showing to me sounded like it would challenge you, but also show how talented of a painter you are!     I love this idea of using colored shadows to accentuate the faces on your oil paintings!! Sounds dramatic and you have the talent to make this incredible! I can't wait to see your paintings again, you're great at painting faces! This idea sounds really cool
